I am a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for the MSc Medical Imaging (Ultrasound) at the University of Cumbria. I am a HCPC‑registered Diagnostic Radiographer and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, with over two decades of experience encompassing clinical ultrasound practice, higher education, research, and national leadership in ultrasound education.

Prior to entering higher education in 2011, I spent more than ten years working within the NHS as a Senior Radiographer and Sonographer, specialising in general medical, vascular, obstetric, and gynaecological ultrasound. I continue to maintain strong clinical links with clinical partners and ongoing collaboration with NHS services and professional bodies.

I completed my PhD in Medical Ultrasound in 2023 at Lancaster University, with my research focusing on work‑related musculoskeletal disorder (WRMSD) among sonographers. Using qualitative research approaches, my work explored the lived experiences of practitioners, examining the professional, cultural, and organisational factors that contribute to injury, workload pressures, and workforce sustainability. My broader research interests include WRMSD prevention, ultrasound workforce development, professional identity, advanced clinical practice, curriculum design, and leadership in healthcare education.

I am an Accreditor and Lead Accreditor for the Consortium for the Accreditation of Sonographic Education (CASE). I have held senior leadership roles within CASE, serving as Vice Chair from 2020 and becoming Chair of the CASE Committee in 2023. I also represent the British Medical Ultrasound Society (BMUS) on the CASE Committee and previously served as an elected member of BMUS Council from 2018 to 2022.

Alongside my institutional leadership role, I have contributed nationally as an external examiner, doctoral examiner, and research supervisor at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. I have been involved in several Health Education England (now NHS England)‑funded projects focused on the development of ultrasound education, advanced clinical practice pathways, and workforce sustainability.

I am deeply committed to high‑quality ultrasound education, professional standards, and the development of a competent, healthy, and future‑proof ultrasound workforce.
