Personal profile

Biography

I have a lifelong passion and interest in sport, starting out as a middle-distance athlete and competed in equestrian events and rowing. When my competitive career ended, I naturally progressed onto Coaching and am a Level 4 High Performance Coach for Athletics (Middle and Long Distance) with over 30 years coaching experience and a Coach Education Tutor. My coaching experience included coaching athletes up to GB selection, established development squads and been involved with Disability Sport. Through having a Sport Science background, I have worked in Sport Performance and Talent Identification Programmes and collaborated in developing programmes that now aim at getting people active and running.

As a Senior Fellow of the HEA I have a passion for teaching and developing academic practice having received Vice Chancellor Awards for Excellence in Teaching & Learning and for the Support of Student Learning and Experience. My subject specialism is in Exercise for Health with a focus on the effects of activity/exercise on health and wellbeing and the impact of inactivity with specific focus on non-communicable disease across the lifespan. My PhD considers organisational policies and practices that impact on activity, health and wellbeing in the workplace.
