Personal profile

Biography

I am a Lecturer within the Institute of Health at the University of Cumbria. My work spans teaching, research and knowledge exchange, with a focus on how people, organisations and systems interact in contexts of complexity, change and innovation.

Before joining academia, I held roles in organisational development, workforce training and education across local government and schools. This experience continues to shape my approach, which is practice‑focused and grounded in real‑world challenges.

Alongside my academic role, I have contributed to digital transformation and workforce development initiatives, working with partners to explore how organisations can respond to technological change while maintaining a strong focus on professional judgement, ethics and human relationships.

Research interests

My research sits at the intersection of people, technology and organisations, with a focus on how professionals make decisions in complex and evolving environments.

My current interests include:

  • The introduction of AI and emerging technologies into professional practice, particularly in regulated and people‑centred roles
  • The relationship between organisational culture, systems and professional judgement
  • How individuals and teams navigate uncertainty, risk and accountability in complex work settings
  • The ethical and relational dimensions of digital transformation and innovation

As part of my Master of Research, I am exploring how workers and early‑career professionals understand and respond to AI and automation, using Q‑methodology. This work has relevance across public, private and third sector contexts.

Knowledge Exchange activity

I am actively engaged in knowledge exchange across education, public services and organisational settings, supporting the development of workforce capability in response to technological and organisational change.

My work includes:

  • Designing and supporting continuing professional development aligned to employer needs
  • Organising cross‑sector events, including the Shaping a Tech and Innovation Enabled Workforce conference
  • Supporting organisations to build adaptive, reflective and digitally confident workforces

My approach focuses on bridging research, practice and organisational priorities to support meaningful and sustainable change.

My teaching is shaped by:

  • Practice‑informed learning, drawing on real organisational and professional challenges
  • Experiential and active learning methods that support the development of professional judgement
