The unique perspective each different student brings to assessment is then presented. Subsequently the paper explores "Assessment as and for Learning‟, a subset of assessment for learning and discusses the benefits of using authentic assessment tasks as learning. The link between assessment as learning and independent life-long learners is explored. Innovative authentic assessments used within the MSc. in Medical Imaging (MRI route) are presented and justified. In conclusion the paper presents authentic assessments as “assessment as learning” which is intrinsically motivating, encourages deep learning and improves student learning outcomes.
