Abstract
This is a book review written by Carrie Mercier, Senior Lecturer in Religious Studies at the University of Cumbria, of the book 'Textbook Gods: genre, text and teaching religious studies', edited by Bengt-Ove Andreassen and James R. Lewis (Equinox Publishing, 2014).
At first glance it might appear that this publication is going to be fairly narrow in its scope, dealing as it does with the very narrow area of research in the field of textbooks and within that a particular focus on textbooks in Religious Studies. However, what emerges when you look a little further is that the book is remarkable in its scope, and the range of the research represented is quite extensive.
