Abstract

Religious education (RE) creates a perfect opportunity for children to think and talk creatively and philosophically because it is concerned with exploring differing views of the world and our place as humans within it. Religions and other world views concern themselves with philosophical and contestable questions and issues and have their own interpretations of the world. Religious texts, stories and teachings introduce, question and explore these ideas and concepts. RE therefore can engage children in investigating and evaluating different views and in exploring their own ideas and beliefs, whatever their standpoint.
