Abstract
The theme of this issue, regional economic resilience, has generated considerable debate in recent years. While some may dispute the newness of the theories associated with the term, there is little doubt that interest in the extent to which regions in different national and international contexts can withstand internal and external shocks to economic and social systems has received fresh impetus in the context of the current economic downturn.
