Abstract
An introduction is presented in which the editor discusses various reports with the issue on topics including evolution of the international division of labor, significance of institutional symmetries and asymmetries affecting border regions, and uneven impact of reshoring on Detroit, Michigan. Scholars who contributed to debates on industrial restructuring back in the 1970's and early 1980s may well experience nostalgia in reading this issue of Regions which contains a regional survey of the theme of "reshoring". The quest to understanding contemporary spatial change in manufacturing activity causes us to revisit some of the conceptual tools that were developed to explain the evolution of the international division of labour.
