Abstract

A bi-lingual film, edited by Pathikrit Das, Pushpam Singh and Richard Johnson, about the Himalayan Flood Database for Disaster Risk Reduction project journey, findings and applications for advancing policy and practice. This film forms part of the HiFlo-DAT project resources released by Dr Richard Johnson, Associate Professor in Science and Environment at University of Cumbria, working with a bi-lateral (UK-India) team. These resources are the product of over a decade of global research and engagement that contributes to developing methodologies for the assembly, analysis, and application of disaster loss data. The HiFlo-DAT research programme is funded by UGC and UKEIRI. The HiFlo-DAT team present substantial new knowledge of past flood occurrence and impacts across 175 years, 128 floods and 59 locations in the Kullu District, Himachal Pradesh, India. They also discuss policy-practice perspectives and present a robust method applicable to the wider Indian Himalaya.
