Abstract

This chapter will outline the current picture of racial and ethnic diversity in the UK for new and upcoming classroom practitioners, including statutory requirements and non-statutory guidance. Through consideration of your ethnicity and recent research into children's and student teachers' attitudes towards cultural diversity, you will be able to critically appreciate the importance of developing pedagogic approaches which are culturally responsive and challenging for you, your learners and the school community.
