Abstract
This year's annual conference was the largest to date with over 500 participants. This meant that it was not only an opportunity to meet up with colleagues and friends and to hear of the research in which they are engaged but also a chance to broaden one's knowledge networks and to contribute to debates on the regional implications of current tumultuous events and processes such as the Great Recession/Financial Crisis, Brexit, migration crises, structural change and innovation, sustainability and economic development.
