Abstract
This article critically reviews the extent to which screening for ovarian cancer fulfils the criteria for mass screening. It further considers the case for a national mass screening programme, although no definitive conclusion can be reached until the European randomized trial of ovarian cancer screening (ERTOCS) reports. Appropriate methods of screening for epithelial types of ovarian cancer are evaluated.
