Abstract

This chapter draws attention to theory, policy and practice of the outdoors, the environment and physical activities. It starts with briefly locating policy and practice within tensions highlighted through eco-feminist thoughts, it then points to research that considers the ways in which policy is pertinent in managing these conflicts. The importance of education in promoting sustainable physical activities out of doors is considered in light of current educational policies. Finally, the chapter considers the conflicting demands of key stakeholders on the land whilst considering land management.
