The underlying importance of context and voice in action research

This chapter analysis the underlying importance of context and voice in action research based on some 50 years of professional engagement in education and educational research. In recognizing and understanding sociohistorical and sociocultural influences in different contexts of action research, the author draws on the ideas of de Sousa Santos and the questions asked by Hall. The chapter focus on the importance of voice from a number of very different contexts, beginning with voices from China's Experimental Centre for Educational Action Research in Foreign Languages Teaching at Ningxia Teachers University. Action Research Africa Network (ARAN) enables action researchers in the United Kingdom to learn from African researchers about Ubuntu as a way of being as they explore multi‐media narratives for representing their action research studies. Educational Journal of Living Theories (EJOLTS) is committed to publishing living‐educational‐theory accounts of practitioner‐researchers from a wide range of global, social, cultural and professional contexts.
