Upland resource management in Britain

Upland environments provide a plethora of resources for society's needs in landscapes that are often multifunctional. Unfortunately, there are a number of complex management issues that can lead to conflicts between stakeholders and, ultimately, damage the very environment we seek to use. This article explores resource use conflict in uplands. It investigates how different groups of actors perceive resources and use them. The article goes on to consider the underlying causes of the conflict and some contemporary resource management approaches that have been employed successfully to develop consensus among stakeholders and sustain the resource base effectively.
